The Importance of Water and How Much Do I Need?

Water is your body's principal chemical component and makes up about 60 percent of your body weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.

Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired.

How much water should you drink each day? It's a simple question with no easy answers. Studies have produced varying recommendations over the years, but in truth, your water needs depend on many factors, including your health, how active you are and where you live.

Although no single formula fits everyone an easy way to approach it is take your body weight and divide it by 2 and thats how many ounce you need to ami for each day.  Example 200lbs / 2 = 100 ounces per day.

Portion Control

Ask anyone who has achieved long-term weight loss how they did it and they're sure to mention portion control. In fact, it can make or break your weight loss efforts.

You can make sure your blood sugar stays at an even keel and keep hunger at bay by eating healthful small meals throughout the day.  Mini meals are by far the best way to prevent overeating because you'll get never too hungry and lose control of your portion intake.  Learn more by clicking:  Mayo Clinics Guide to Portion Control
